Getting Started: Guinea Pigs, Hamsters & Other Small Pets

Small pets are often mistaken for “low-maintenance” but have real space, diet, and social needs – guinea pigs, for example, are social and need vitamin C in their diet, while hamsters are typically solitary and territorial.

• Research your specific animal’s space, diet, and social needs – they vary a lot between species.
• Provide the largest enclosure you reasonably can – bigger is almost always better.
